RCTFC Athletes Rake in 11 medals, 16 top 5 finishes and a Most Inspiring Athlete Award at BC Highschool Championships


Congratulations to all the RCTFC athletes who competed at BC High School Track & Field Club Championships!

On the throws side of things, highlights included: JV Patry-Smith‘s trio of Bronze in discus, javelin & shot put, Jarrett Chong‘s Gold in discus, Silver in shot put and 4th place finish in shot put and Lauryn Savela‘s Silver in javelin!

For jumps, Katie Stewart-Barnett won Silver in high jump, Ella Foster took 4th place for pole vault and Jeremy Belcher nabbed 5th place in triple jump!

On the track, Ryan Jensen won 4th place in the 110m hurdles in the Senior category, Katie Stewart-Barnett and Grace Fetherstonhaugh both set meet records for Junior & Senior steeple chase respectively. As well, Fetherstonhaugh won Silver in the 3000m and the 1500m, which contributed to her winning the BC High School Track & Field Championship’s Most Inspiring Athlete Award for 2018. Stewart-Barnett took 4th place in the 3000m, as well as being part of the Silver medal St Thomas Moore Junior Girls Relay Team! With her duo of Silver medals and 4th place finish in the 3000m, Stewart-Barnett was a huge contributor to her high school’s winning of the Junior Female Track & Field Championship Banner for 2018!

RCTFC Midget Athletes Post Peak Performances at Summer Games Trials


 

Congratulations to the RCTFC squad of Midget athletes who competed at the BC Summer Games Trials for Zones 3 & 4!

Strong performances by all, with several personal best and “season-so-far” best performances accomplished, the following athletes are to be congratulated: Ella Foster (pole vault), Henry Ruckman (mid distance), Isabella Brunoro (mid distance), Ryan Goudron (mid distance), Katie Stewart-Barnett (mid distance & high jump), Kaitlyn Heslop (mid distance) and Kirin Wanniarachchi (sprints)! The selections to the regional teams that will compete at BC Summer Games this July will be announced June 12 based on the performances at the trials! Good luck to these talented midget athletes during the selection process!

 

 

RCTFC JDs Rock It at the South Fraser JD Meet!

8 RCTFC High School Athletes Conquer at South Fraser Invitational

8 of Royal City Track & Field Club’s high school-aged athletes won well at the South Fraser Invitational!

Congratulations to Isabelle Brunoro, Christina Heslop, Ryan Goudron, Ryan Holloway, Lauryn Savela, Zuzu Liniewski, Jenevieve Patry-Smith and Katie Stewart-Barnett for their performances.

It was a weekend of PBs for the RCTFC mass of throwers at the meet!

Jenevieve Patry-Smith threw a pb of 41.21m in javelin (600g) which brought her a 1st place, Zuzu threw 41.25m in the 3K hammer throw also taking 1st place, Lauryn Savela took 2nd place with a pb throw of 38.05m in javelin (500g) and Ryan Holloway threw a pb of 28.22m in discus (1.75k)!

On the track Katie Stewart-Barnett took 1st place in the 15-16 1500m steeplechase, Isabella Brunoro took 3rd and Christina Heslop took 4th place!

Congratulations also to Ryan Goudron who took 2nd place in the 1500m steeplechase as well as 4th place in the 800m!

RCTFC Compete at Emilie Mondor Varsity Meet

Shout-out also to the RCTFC high school-aged athletes who competed at the Emilie Mondor Varsity Meet in early April on the SFU Campus!

Grace Fetherstonhaugh runs 2000m SC to 2nd place at Emilie Mondor

Competing against other club high school-aged athletes, but mostly against university athletes, were Kaitlyn Hanger (shot put, hammer), Ryan Roberts (1500m), Isabella Brunoro (1500m), Jenevieve Patry-Smith (javelin, discus), Zuzu Liniewski (hammer), Ryan Holloway (discus), Grace Fetherstonhaugh (2000m SC), Katie Stewart-Barnett (high jump, 2000m SC), Jack Foster (triple jump), Lauryn Savela (javelin), Brianna Bates (javelin), Shea Janke (2000m SC) and Ryan Goudron (2000m SC).

RCTFC represent at Oregon Relays

Congratulations to distance runners Katie Stewart-Barnett and Grace Fetherstonhaugh and throwers Jenevieve Patry-Smith, Jarrett Chong, Zuzu Liniewiski and Lauryn Savela on their performances at the 2018 Oregon Relays at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon.

Highlights include Jarrett Chong‘s 3rd place in shot put and javelin (57.39m) and also a top 10 performance in discus, Grace Fetherstonhaugh‘s 1st place in the 3000m and 2nd place & pb in the 1500m, Katie Stewart-Barnett‘s 2nd place in the 3000m and 5th place in high jump (she is gr 9 against a field of gr 11 & 12s). Stewart-Barnett jumped 1.60m in high jump and Fetherstonhaugh’s pb in the 1500m was 4:31:38. Congrats to JV Patry-Smith on her 4th place in javelin and Zuzu‘s performance in the varsity aged hammer where she took 14th place out of 25 as a gr 10 against seniors. Also of note is Lauryn Savela‘s javelin throw of 34.20m (first time throwing new javelin weight). Her performance brought her 14th place out of 33 as a gr 10 against a field of gr 11 & 12.

In the best interest of those JD (Junior Development is ages 9-13) athletes already registered for the 2018 season, JD registration for the 2018 season is now closed!

Top 2017 Performances by Two RCTFC Athletes Recognized at BC Athletics Banquet

Distance Runner/Steeplechaser Grace Fetherstonhaugh and Distance Runner/Steeplechaser/High Jumper Katie Stewart-Barnett were recognized at the 2017 BC Athletics Annual Awards Banquet on February 4, 2018.

Fetherstonhaugh was named 2017 BC Athletics Youth Female Track & Field Athlete of the Year. Highlights of her season included Gold at Canada Summer Games in 3000m steeplechase and Bronze at Canadian Junior Track & Field Championships in 3000m steeplechase. She currently holds the record in 2000m steeplechase (6:41.46) at the Canadian Youth Legion National Championships and in 2017 was ranked 1st provincially and nationally in both 2000m and 3000m steeplechase.

Stewart-Barnett was named 2017 Midget Female Cross Country Runner of the Year. Stewart-Barnett won the Gold medal at the BC Cross Country Championships in the Female 14 age group and she won the Bronze Medal at BC High School Junior Championships. She won the Female 14 Lower Mainland Cross Country Series and was undefeated in 4 races. Stewart-Barnett was also a recipient of the BC Athletics Midget 14 Female Track & Field Award. She accomplished the standard in the 2000m (with a time of 6:34.05) with her Silver medal win at the Jesse Bent, in the 1500m steeplechase (with a time of 5:04.66) with her Gold medal win at the BC Athletics Track & Field Championship Jamboree and also in high jump with her Gold medal win at the Ocean Athletics Summer Series #1 Meet with a jump of 1.60m.
