RCTFC athlete makes top 10 @ XC Nationals

RCTFC’s Grace Fetherstonhaugh (left) competes to 7th place @ Nationals. She and her Team BC teammate (pictured right) both made top 10, helping to secure the youth girls’ Silver medal in the team category.

Royal City Track & Field Club’s 16 year old Grace Fetherstonhaugh took 7th place out of 197 competitors from across the country  in the 16/17 youth girls 4km race at the National Cross Country race in Kingston, Ontario on Saturday, November 26th.

Fetherstonhaugh was selected to compete at the race as a member of Team BC on the youth girls’ team (16/17 age category) following her provincial cross country competition season. Following their performances, she and her 5 teammates from across the province secured the Silver medal in the team category on behalf of Team BC.

Following her strong showing throughout the 2016 cross country season, Royal City Track and Field Club athlete, Grace Fetherstonhaugh, was named to the BC Cross Country Team. She will be part of the six member team of youth aged girls representing BC at the Canadian Cross Country Championships held in Kingston, Ontario on November 26th.

Athletes, Coaches and parents joined together to celebrate the 2016 Track & Field and Cross Country seasons on Sunday, November 6th.

RCTFC Athletes Close the XC Season with top finishes!

Ten year old RCTFC JD athlete Max Holmes’ picked up the Lower Mainland XC Series 1st Place Plaque for his Gold Medals across the board in all the cross country races in his age-group this season! Following his 1st place finish at Pinetree, Bear Creek Park, Crescent Park, Jericho Park and Cates Park, Max went on to capture the Gold at the BC Athletics Cross Country Championship in Nanaimo.

Team-mate Emily Bowles placed 3rd in the Lower Mainland XC Series for 12 year old girls, following strong final performances at Frank Reynolds (5th place) and taking the Bronze Medal at the BC Athletics XC Championships.

RCTFC athlete Katie Stewart Barnett is to be congratulated for a fine performance in the Junior Girl’s category at the BC High School XC Championships in Kelowna. Stewart-Barnett took 5th place as a grade 8 competing in the grade 9-10 competition.

For 14-15 year old boys, Shea Janke took 2nd place in the Lower Mainland XC Series overall, following strong final performances at Cates Park (4th), Crescent Park (Silver) and at the Nanaimo-hosted BC Athletics XC Championships (9th). Janke also went on to compete at BC XC High School Provincial Championships in Kelowna with a top 40 finish (out of 202 Junior Boys).shea

In the 16-17 year old age-group Grace Fetherstonhaugh finished the last 2 races of the Lower Mainland Series with a 1st place at Cresent Park and a 2nd place at Cates Park. Fetherstonhaugh went on to finish in 9th place at BC Athletics XC Championships in Nanaimo and 10th place at BC High School XC Championships in Kelowna; she will compete at Canadian Cross Country Championships in Kingston, Ontario as a member of Team BC on November 26, 2016.

Team-mates in the 16-17 Senior Girls’ category, RCTFC athletes Ashlynne Stairs and Emily Chilton were also top finishers at the BC XC High School Provincial Championships in Kelowna, taking 23rd and 35th place (out of 223 racers in the event). Stairs also took 5th place at Ocean Athletics’ Festival of Cross Country Competition.

In the 18-19 Girls’ category, team-mate Lina Von Petersdorff, placed 1st overall in the Lower Mainland XC Series. Von Petersdorff is an athlete from Germany and she has been training and competing with the club while during her stay in Canada.
